Ovulation Induction: A Path to Overcoming Infertility

The lack of ovulation affects up to a third of all couples seeking to get pregnant leading to significant infertility. The majority of women who struggle with ovulation have polycystic ovary syndrome, but many other conditions can also disrupt natural ovulation and conception.

Ovulation induction is a fertility treatment that aims to help women who are having difficulty ovulating regularly or at all.

The process of ovulation induction involves the use of medications that stimulate the ovaries to produce and release mature eggs. These medications, such as clomiphene citrate, letrozole, or injectable gonadotropins, work by regulating the hormones responsible for ovulation.

These simple treatment measures can be employed to induce ovulation and help women to get pregnant spontaneously if no other infertility factors are present. However, ovulation induction is generally considered a safe and effective approach, it does carry some risks, such as the potential for multiple pregnancies (e.g., twins or triplets) and a condition called ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). Close monitoring by a fertility specialist is crucial during the ovulation induction process to manage these potential side effects.

Overall, ovulation induction can be a valuable tool in the journey to conceive, helping to overcome ovulatory issues and improve the chances of a successful pregnancy.

If you have an ovulation disorder our LUNA doctors can help to get a holistic assessment of your fertility, identify contributing causes, and start ovulation induction treatments rapidly to achieve a healthy pregnancy.
